How To Export Your Favorites In ServiceNow

We've all been there.. you build up the perfect list of favorites. You've tweaked your icons, set the colors, and adjusted them to the perfect placement.

Then BAM! A clone happens, and you've lost them all. So you end up typing sys_user.list into your navigator for the next week since you're too stubborn to start rebuilding your favorites (or, at least, that's what I do!).

Luckily, the process to export your favorites in ServiceNow is quick and easy.

In this post, we'll go over how you can export your favorites before a clone, and then re-import them after.

Let's get started!

Step One: Export Your Favorites (before the clone)

Start by entering sys_ui_bookmark.list in your filter navigator, which will take you to the Bookmarks [sys_ui_bookmark] table.

Next, filter the 'User' column for your name. For example, if your name is Steph Curry, you'd want to filter for Name = Steph Curry.

Lastly, right click on any column header and then choose Export > XML (as shown below):

Once the export is complete, you'll be prompted to download (as shown below). Make sure to click 'Download' and save your file in a safe spot so that you'll have it after the clone.

Step Two: Import Your Favorites (after the clone)

Once the clone is complete and you're on the new system, it's time to import your favorites.

To do this, start by navigating to any list view and right clicking on the column header.

After right clicking on the column header, click 'Import XML' (make sure you're choosing Import XML and not just Import) as shown below:

Import XML From List Context Menu

After you click 'Import XML' you'll be prompted to choose a file. Choose the file that you exported and saved in step one, and then click 'Upload'.

Once the upload is complete, refresh your screen and your list of favorites will appear!

At this point, you're all done! You've successfully exported your favorites and imported them into your new instance. Thanks for reading!
